イギリスを代表する陶芸家バーナード・リーチが濱田庄司とともに渡英してセントアイヴスに築いた製陶所リーチポタリーは、2020年に創設100年を迎えました。本展では、リーチの足跡と芸術から見いだされる数々の「奇跡」に着目し、リーチが目指した陶芸家の精神とは何かを見つめます。

 

 

２館観覧プレゼント

益子陶芸美術館と濱田庄司記念益子参考館の２つの展示を観覧した方、先着300名様にスリップウェアの陶器のブローチプレゼント（※先着数に達したため終了しました）

 

【スリップウェアとは】スリップ（泥状の化粧土）技法を用いた陶器。中世のヨーロッパで作られていました。その美に魅せられた濱田とリーチがセントアイヴスにて再現しました。

“The Leach Pottery”, which was built in St Ives, England by Bernard Leach, a leading English potter, with Shoji Hamada, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020. In this exhibition, we will focus on his astounding achievements and art, and find out what the sprit of the potter that he sought.

 

 

A present for visiting both museums

The first 300 visitors who visit the exhibitions at both the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art and the SHOJI HAMADA Memorial Mashiko Sankokan Museum will receive a complimentary ceramic slipware brooch.

 

Slipware is a type of pottery which name derives from the slip (a suspension of clay and other minerals) decorating process used to make it. Slipware has been produced in Europe since the Middle Ages. Hamada and Leach were enchanted by the beauty of slipware and revived the style in St Ives.
